Michael John Ryan, 53 of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away surrounded by his family on October 2, 2019 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis, MO.
Michael was born January 18, 1966 to Michael T. and Madonna R. (nee Goodall) Ryan in Rock Island, Illinois.
He grew up in Naperville, attended Naperville North High School where he proudly ran with the cross-country team and graduated in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army from 1984-1987.
Michael moved to Southern Illinois and married Patricia (nee Sommerfeldt) February 14th, 1997. They have two children. Michael was employed by AmSted Rail in Granite City, IL for the last 17 years.
Michael was a hard worker and loved walking at Woodland Park and spending time with his family. He was very humble and kind. He loved his wife and sons and will be remembered for the special times they shared together.
Michael is survived by and will be missed by his wife Patricia and sons Michael and Presley of Collinsville, IL, his parents, Michael and Madonna Ryan of Naperville. Siblings: Michelle (David) Heaton of Collinsville, IL, Melissa (John) O’Keefe, of Glendale, CA, Maureen (Scott) Mackowiak, of Honolulu, HI, Marty Ryan of Downers Grove, IL, Marc (LeAnne) Ryan of Sonora, CA and Megan (Louis) Zink, Jr., of Crystal Lake, IL, and sister-in-law, Sherry Juehne, Aunt Patricia (Jack) Soosbee; nieces and nephews: Lindsay Mecklenburg, Matthew, Ryan, Nicholas Heaton, Delaney, Hannah, Bridget and Colleen O’Keefe, Taylor and Kainoa Mackowiak, Mitchell, Mason and Jillian Ryan, Van, Aspen, and Drew Ryan, and Mary Elizabeth Zink.
Michael was preceded in death by; a brother-in law, Michael Juenhe, in-laws, Herbert and Betty (nee Hartwell) Sommerfeldt; an uncle, James L. Ryan, an uncle and aunt Robert and Karen Hovey; grandparents: Raymond and Lola (nee Bowman)Goodall, Iowa, and John L. and Benita (nee O’Toole) Ryan, Iowa.
A memorial celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Thursday, October 10th at the Collinsville Knights of Columbus from 5:00p.m.- 9:00 pm.
Funeral Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, Illinois Friday, October 11th at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St Louis, MO, Friday, October 11th at 1 PM.
Memorials to the family are preferred.
